Frequently Experienced Dental Emergencies

It is never easy dealing with an emergency of any kind, and is always a huge source of stress when something unexpected and drastic happens. The best way to deal with emergency scenarios that may arise is to educate yourself on them so that you can be prepared to handle whatever situation arises.
Dental emergencies tend to have a fairly unique and specific set of criteria to be observed in order to properly and safely deal with them. There are a handful of dental emergencies that pop up frequently, such as:

Tooth Ache

Aches can be an indicator of a bigger problem with your teeth, and due to this it is always wise to schedule a dental appointment to ensure proper treatment before a potentially small problem is able to get much larger. While waiting for your appointment it is highly advised that you keep the tooth clean with regular brushing and flossing, taking special care to be gentle with the tooth. Rinsing the mouth regularly with salt water is advisable to ensure particulate matter is not allowed to accumulate.

Chipped Tooth

Depending on the nature of the chip, you may or may not need dental attention. Small chips and tiny cracks can often be so minor as to not need emergency dental attention. If the chip is major there is a chance it exposes the nerve of the tooth, which will almost always lead to a hurt or sensitive tooth. Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply light pressure to any bleeding that may occur. Chips can often be repaired easily with the help of crowns or veneers.Make certain to call us at (206) 204-9623 and come in as soon as possible to ensure that we can save as much of the existing tooth as possible.

Knocked Out Tooth

Knocked out tooth in a glass of milk crown hill dentalWhen a tooth is knocked out the first thing to do is grab the tooth by the crown, not the root, and make certain it is rinsed in water. Make no attempt to dry the tooth and touch it as little as possible. Attempt to put the tooth back in the socket. If placing the tooth back in the socket is not an option, placing it in a cup of milk is an acceptable alternative. Make sure to contact us as quickly as possible so that we can have the highest chance of saving the tooth.

Regardless of what happens please feel free to contact us at (206) 204-9623 with any and all questions and concerns you might have regarding dental emergencies. We want to make sure that, regardless of the emergency, you know we are here to brighten your day!
